His Grace Govardhana Dasa
His Grace Govardhana Dasa is a member of the Governing Body Commission (GBC) of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and has dedicated his life to the distribution of Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books, organizational leadership, and the development of ISKCON’s publishing and educational mission.
Born in Durban, South Africa, he first came into contact with the Hare Krishna movement in 1982. Although initially hesitant to accept a copy of The Science of Self-Realization during a public harināma, he was deeply transformed after reading its opening chapters. Inspired by Śrīla Prabhupāda’s teachings, he immediately adopted a vegetarian lifestyle and began chanting the Hare Krishna mahā-mantra.
Recognizing the profound impact that Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books had on his own life, Govardhana Dasa devoted himself to their distribution and promotion. Over the years, he has served as a trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) Africa and later as a Global Trustee of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. He also serves as Chairman of the Back to Godhead (BTG) Board, overseeing ISKCON’s flagship international magazine.
Within ISKCON, Govardhana Dasa has held numerous leadership positions, including Co-Temple President, Regional Secretary, and National Secretary. He has also served as a Global Duty Officer (GDO), with a particular focus on the Society’s economic development and financial sustainability.
In 1994, he received spiritual initiation from His Holiness Bhakti Caitanya Swami.
Through his lifelong commitment to book distribution, publishing, organizational leadership, and devotional service, Govardhana Dasa continues to support the worldwide mission of Śrīla Prabhupāda and the growth of ISKCON.
